Okotoks: it's not just a funny word, it's the name of a small city outside of Calgary that is becoming very popular indeed. At a mere 64 kilometres from the Calgary International Airport, Okotoks is perfect for commuters who prefer to live in a city with a bit of a slower pace. This foothill community isn't too bad on the eyes, either.

There is so much to recommend Okotoks, so where to start? Its excellent sustainability program might be a good place. With environmental programs in development and in practice all the time, the town of Okotoks is a pioneer in this field. They've won multiple awards for their forward-thinking city planning and development.

Victoria Park, home to the Calgary Stampede Shortly after celebrating Canada’s 145th birthday on July 1, Calgarians get ready to celebrate the Calgary Stampede’s 100th year anniversary. This year the Stampede celebration begins on July 6 and continues until July 15. Billed as “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth” it is no surprise that there is great excitement in the city during the festival.

The Stampede has something for everyone. Not only is it home to one of the world’s largest and most famous rodeos, there are also the chuck wagon races, the midway, and agricultural competitions as well as stage shows and concerts, which keep all ages entertained.
