That approach might work right now, but to save for a down payment requires some changes to how you handle your finances.

If your current living situation is much more affordable than the home you'll be living in when you buy, which it almost invariably is, there's a great

Okotoks: it's not just a funny word, it's the name of a small city outside of Calgary that is becoming very popular indeed. At a mere 64 kilometres from the Calgary International Airport, Okotoks is perfect for commuters who prefer to live in a city with a bit of a slower pace. This foothill community isn't too bad on the eyes, either.

There is so much to recommend Okotoks, so where to start? Its excellent sustainability program might be a good place. With environmental programs in development and in practice all the time, the town of Okotoks is a pioneer in this field. They've won multiple awards for their forward-thinking city planning and development.

Recreation is another area in which Okotoks shines. In the summer time, residents of Okotoks
